René Payán, born in Puebla, Puebla, México, lived thirty years against the backdrop of the magnificent volcanoes, Popocatepetl and Ixtazihuatl. Nature in its grandeur was always a presence beyond the industrial and technological machinations of the fourth largest city in México, home of the historical battle of Cinco de Mayo. French architecture is prolific in the center of Puebla, making it an obvious inspiration for budding architects. Mr. Payán, a superior art student who first expressed himself in drawing subjects of his mountainous surroundings, eventually turned his interest to architectural design, which he studied at the Universidad Autonomo de Puebla.
Once out of school, his work at the Universidad de las Americas and a radio conglomerate, Grupo ACIR, honed his communication skills and an intense interest in technology resulted in his relocation to Phoenix, Arizona to work for KTVW, Univision.
Later, he would develop into a graphic artist and video animator, using concepts and techniques, such as modeling, layering and 3D imagery.
The artistic components of color, form and composition dominate his images, which combine Arizona’s natural beauty with the height of computer technology. As the volcanoes imposed their magnificence in the midst of modern life in the busy city of Puebla, home of his youth, so does René Payán propose to blend the natural beauty of the Arizona desert with the image making methods available through high tech design. The result is over 300 virtual landscapes inspired by the awesome vistas of our amazing Arizona countryside and desert.
